The lack of affordable housing in West Oakland has led to displacement and isolation, with existing designs often failing to provide a sense of belonging or a gradual transition between private and communal life. This project proposes a low-income communal housing that prioritizes a gradient of spatial transitions—from private bedrooms to semi-private common rooms to large shared spaces that promote a supportive community while preserving individuality.
