RODEO LAGOON RESEARCH CENTERRodeo Lagoon Research Station, located in the Marin Headlands along the lagoon trail, combines three programmatic spaces: Education, Observation, and Research. Closest to the water and on grade with the trail is the animal observation blind. Wood filigree provides a screen quality with openings to observe local aquatic and waterfowl wildlife. Stepped up from the trail, accessible by ramp or stairs, is a gathering space for students, and acts as a rest space along the trail. Further back, a four-story ecology and research station peeks above the cypress trees. Resident scientists mainly use this space, but it is also accessible to the public via ramp and stairs.
All buildings feature horizontal wood members providing varying light and privacy. The slanted roofs follow the contour of the hillside, creating a sense of opening to the water.
